Archery Elk hunts are done on the timbered slopes and foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They are conducted by driving and spotting a likely group of elk or by short day hikes into areas that are known to hold elk. This is a 6 day hunt conducted in early September during the heat of the rut. There is nothing quite as exciting as calling in a screaming bull elk to bow range. There is a 3 point minimum for elk and you can expect to see several bulls over the minimum up to a 300 class bull. This hunt is an excellent combination with a trophy archery Mule deer hunt. Only two archery elk tags are available each year.
Rifle elk season opens October 25. Colder weather pushes the elk out of the high country to greener pastures making them more visible. This is a 6 day spot and stalk hunt from a truck where you will try to catch the bulls moving in between their bedding and feeding grounds. There is a 3 point minimum for elk. This is an excellent combination with a trophy rifle Mule deer hunt.
